CHECK-IN AT GIANT TURTLE ROCK

Along the celestial road that winds through Hai Van Pass, travelers can pause at various spots to marvel at the majestic pass—once honored by Emperor Minh Mang as “The world’s most majestic pass”. Among these stops, one place stands out: Giant Turtle Rock.

About 6 km from the foot of Hai Van Pass, a row of hillside cafés clings precariously to the mountainside. Here, a boulder resembles a giant turtle, seemingly stranded on the mountain, its weary gaze fixed on a colossal turtle below, struggling to crawl toward the sea. For millions of years, this scene has remained unchanged—as if the elder turtle awaits the descent of its companion so that, together, they may venture out into the ocean.

From the Giant Turtle Rock café, travelers can sip a warm cup of coffee while taking in the sweeping panorama of the south of Hai Van Pass. Watch as white clouds drift lazily over the summit, bask in the glow of golden sunlight over a blue sea, admire the pine-clad hills, and occasionally glimpse trains gliding through the verdant landscape before disappearing into the mountain’s depths.

Giant Turtle Rock embodies an enchanting natural beauty – harmonious blend of earth, sky, mountains, and the boundless sea. Check in at Giant Turtle Rock on those misty days when clouds meander along the ridges, and while sitting on the turtle-head-shaped outcrop (affectionately known by the café owner as the “boat-nose rock”), you will feel as though you are drifting weightlessly, utterly captivated by the majestic splendor of Hai Van Pass.
