According to a post shared by Văn Tài Lê, on May 20, 2025, under scorching sun and harsh winds on Hải Vân Pass, cyclist Duy Ho officially took on the Everesting Hải Vân challenge—and successfully completed it at 2:30 AM on May 21, 2025.

After 20 grueling ascents, totaling 22 hours, 24 minutes, and 8 seconds, Duy Ho reached an accumulated elevation gain of 9,020 meters, surpassing the required 8,848 meters—the height of Mount Everest. With that, he officially “Everested” Hải Vân Pass.

Duy Ho is the first Vietnamese cyclist to complete Everesting on Hải Vân Pass.

Including foreign athletes, he is the second person overall—after Kieran Barry. However, in terms of time and elevation gain, Duy Ho surpassed Barry’s achievement:

  • Kieran Barry (Feb 20, 2020): 406.58 km, 9,001 m, 24h 17m
  • Duy Ho (May 20–21, 2025): 375.95 km, 9,020 m, 22h 24m

As of now, Duy Ho’s challenge has not yet been officially recognized by everesting.cc, possibly because he hasn’t registered or submitted his Strava data for verification. Nonetheless, with what he’s achieved, the Vietnamese cycling community has every reason to proudly celebrate him as one of those who have conquered Hải Vân in the toughest way imaginable.

Who is Duy Ho?

There’s still little public information about him. Mr. Old Man only found a Facebook page with a few photos, revealing that Duy Ho currently lives and works in Hanoi. He is passionate about travel and has previously bikepacked across Europe.

A FINAL WORD (OR PERHAPS NOT THE LAST)

Two years ago, Mr. Old Man wrote an article titled “Everesting Hải Vân Pass – Why Not?” to cheer on Katie Bardley after her impressive 24-hour ride and encourage her to take on the Everesting challenge. For various reasons, Katie has yet to make that ride happen.

And now, a Vietnamese rider—Duy Ho—has turned that dream into reality, answering a question that once hung in the air:

Everesting Hải Vân – Why not?

Duy Ho stands as a symbol of passion, perseverance, and true sporting spirit—an inspiration to anyone striving to push past their limits.

Let’s congratulate Duy Ho—a new pride of Vietnam’s cycling community!
