The Weather App Is Also Very… “Weather”

Yesterday, I checked the weather app on my iPhone and saw that Da Nang was expected to have rain all day Sunday — 100% chance.

That meant a very high chance of losing my morning swim and bike ride. I was even thinking of canceling my coffee date with a friend who was visiting from out of town. After all, if he kept his promise and showed up, we might both end up wet as drowned rats.

At 5:20 a.m., my alarm went off. I checked the app. Still raining — at least according to the little cloud-and-raindrop icon.

6 a.m. Still raining.

7 a.m. Still raining.

8 a.m. Still raining.

9 a.m. … Still raining.

Well, there goes the plan!

I stayed in bed for a while, then finally got up and opened the door.

Not a single drop of rain. The sky was clearing up.

So I went to the beach, soaked up some sunshine, then jumped into the sea and swam a few hundred meters. By then, the sun was already high in the sky.

Now I’m sitting in a café with my friend, talking about the weather after a bike ride around town.

I checked the app again.

The forecast had changed:

Sunny until noon. Rain in the afternoon.

Are you sure about that!?

So… how can a weather app be so “weather” itself?
