Articles Lifestyle Mr Old Man Will Trump Avenue in Ottawa Become Taco Avenue!? By Mr Old Man Posted on 7 seconds ago 4 min read 0 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr Sitting at a coffee shop and browsing the web, Mr. Old Man came across a story saying that Ottawa City Council is considering renaming Trump Avenue. One of the proposed names? Taco Avenue. I couldn’t help laughing. Read the original story here: https://edition.cnn.com/2026/08/27/americas/ottawa-rename-trump-avenue-lake-america-latam-intl About 25 years ago, before he became President of the United States, Trump was a billionaire real-estate developer and the star of the reality TV show The Apprentice. He was famous enough that a street in Ottawa was named Trump Avenue. At the time, there was nothing particularly unusual about the name. The neighborhood has several streets named after places and things associated with New York. Things are a little different now. With the trade war and tariff disputes between the United States and Canada heating up, Ottawa City Council has agreed to begin the process of renaming Trump Avenue. Among the proposed names is Taco Avenue. Taco is, of course, a famous Mexican food. So having a Taco Avenue in Ottawa sounds perfectly innocent—and rather delicious. Except that people who know the story behind TACO will understand it differently. TACO stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out”—a nickname used by some investors and commentators to mock Trump’s tendency to make tough threats and then back down or change course when the markets react. So if one fine day you see a street sign saying: TACO AVENUE …someone who doesn’t know the story might think Ottawa is promoting Mexican food. Someone who does know what TACO stands for might have a rather different reaction. I wonder whether Canada has plans to “deal with” other places bearing the Trump name. There is, for example, a Trump Lake in northern Ontario. If that ever becomes TACO Lake, that would be fun. Or perhaps Canadians will come up with something even more creative! Trump, meanwhile, is not exactly sitting quietly. Just as Ottawa was considering renaming Trump Avenue, Trump signed an order directing the U.S. government to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” Whatever he doesn’t like—or whatever he wants to claim—he seems to have a tendency to… turn it into America. The Gulf of Mexico became the Gulf of America. Now Lake Ontario becomes Lake America. And when it comes to the Strait of Hormuz, Trump has even threatened to declare the area “American territory.” One side changes Trump to TACO. The other changes Ontario to America. Grown-ups playing tit-for-tat politics can be pretty funny sometimes! ___ Mr. Old Man
