CARGO SHIP

QUESTION

Dear Mr. Old Man,

I need your help with the following:

BL “received for shipment” shows as follows:

Pre – carriage by:
Akar H14356

Place of receipt: Hochiminh, Vietnam

Ocean vessel: Norbir 26899H

Port of loading: Hochiminh

Port of discharge: Singapore

Laden on board in Akar H14356

1. Is the above on board notation OK?
2. Should invoice show the pre-carriage Akar H14356 or the ocean vessel Norbir 26899H?

Looking forward to your answer soon.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

ANSWER

Hi,

1. On board notation

If Bill of Lading is pre-printed “received for shipment” with a place of receipt AND an indication of a means of pre-carriage OR with an indication of a means of pre-carriage only, a dated on board notation is required with the name of the vessel (that is leaving the port of loading) and the port of loading.

For your case, a correct on board notation would be as follows:

SHIPPED ON BOARD M/V NORBIR 26899
AT HOCHIMINH PORT, VIETNAM ON (DATE)

2. Vessel on invoice

There is no need for the name of the vessel to be indicated on the invoice. However, when it is indicated on the invoice, it must agree with that on the bill of lading and other documents.

The invoice in your case may indicate both the names of the pre-carriage vessel (M/v Akar H14356) and the ocean vessel ((M/v Norbir 26899H) or only the name of the ocean vessel (M/v Norbir 26899H).

Kind regards,
Mr. Old Man
