Mr Old Man Payment Q&A QUESTION REGARDING DOCUMENT PRESENTATION AFTER LC EXPIRY By Mr Old Man Posted on 3 days ago 2 min read 0 0 1,181 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr QUESTION Dear Mr. Old Man, I have a question regarding the presentation of documents after the expiration of an LC, as follows: • Date and Place of Expiry: April 18, 2025, in Vietnam • Latest Shipment Date: March 30, 2025 • Estimated Time of Departure: April 21, 2025 Given this schedule, I advised the beneficiary to request an amendment from the applicant to extend both the latest shipment date and the expiry date. However, the beneficiary is unwilling to proceed due to the high amendment fee (USD 520). Additionally, the applicant has confirmed via email that they will waive the discrepancies. Could you please confirm whether we can still present the documents to the issuing bank, provided the LC has not yet been officially closed, or if document presentation is no longer possible once the LC has expired? Best regards, KL —– ANSWER Hi, The applicant’s email confirmation holds no binding value for the issuing bank. The issuing bank still retains the right to reject the documents, even if the applicant waives the discrepancies. To mitigate risks, if the latest shipment date and LC expiry date are not amended for extension, the issuing bank should confirm through the advising bank that they accept the discrepancies related to “late shipment” and “late presentation” and agree to process the payment even after the LC has expired. Best regards, Mr. Old Man
