Mr Old Man Q&A BL SHOWING PLACE OF FINAL DESTINATION DIFFERENT FROM PORT OF DISCHARGE By Mr Old Man Posted on May 25, 2014 1 min read 2 1 4,996 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr QUESTION Dear Mr. Old Man, I have a question: L/C calls for port to port BL stating port of loading and port of discharge. Presented BL showing required ports but also place of final destination not called for under LC. Is it a discrepancy? Any ICC opinion about this? Thank you in advance for your valuable reply. Shirki ——– ANSWER Dear Shirki, There is no discrepancy. BL indicating port of loading and port of discharge as required by the LC is acceptable notwithstanding that place of final destination is different from the port of discharge. Please note that a BL may indicate a place of final destination beyond the port of discharge. See R228, which says: “Pursuant to UCP 500 sub-Article 23(a)(iii), banks will accept an ocean bill of lading which indicates the port of loading and the port of discharge stipulated in the credit, notwithstanding that it indicates a place of taking in charge different from the port of loading, and/or a place of final destination different from the port of discharge”. Kind regards, Mr. Old Man
